Pass / Fail

The Document: You will receive a Pass Notification Letter, which you must sign immediately.
 

Keep it Safe: 

This letter is a vital document. It contains your unique ID number and specific test details.
The Application: You must attach this letter to your official application for British citizenship or permanent residence.
Timeline: While the Home Office keeps records for a "reasonable period," you are advised to submit your application as soon as possible after passing.


If You Fail

The Document: You will receive a Results Notification Letter.

Retake Rules:

  • You must wait at least seven days before retaking the test.
  • You must book and pay for a new appointment for every attempt.
  • There is no limit to how many times you can take the test.

Restrictions: 

You cannot apply for naturalisation or indefinite leave to remain until you have a passing result.

Support Options

If language is a barrier, the text suggests enrolling in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and citizenship classes at local colleges or adult education centres.
