Becoming a permanent resident

Be able to speak and read English. Have a good understanding of life in the UK.

This means you must:
Pass the "General Knowledge of British Life" test.


And
Provide evidence of competence in the English language (Listening and Speaking) at least to the level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) Level B1 equivalent to ESOL Entry Level 3. You may take an examination on your knowledge of the English language at any accredited testing centre as proof that you possess competence in the use of English. Information on ways one can provide evidence he/they have met the required level for knowledge in using English is available from the UK Home Office website.
